WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PASSPORT SERVICES?
  • FRESH PASSPORT ISSUE: First-time applicants can apply for a fresh passport.
  • RE-ISSUE OF PASSPORT: Applicants who seek re-issue of their existing passport can apply for it for any of the following reasons:
    1. DAMAGED PASSPORT
    2. LOST PASSPORT
    3. EXPIRY OF PASSPORT VALIDITY WITHIN 3 YEARS.
    4. PAGES EXHAUSTATION
    5. EXPIRY OF PASSPORT VALIDITY MORE THAN 3 YEARS AGO.
    6. MODIFICATIONS IN EXISTING PERSONAL PARTICULARS.
  • FRESH ISSUE OF PASSPORT: Applicants should ensure that they must have never held a passport of the applied category (Diplomatic Passport, Ordinary Passport, Official Passport) in the past. If the applicant has ever held an ordinary passport but never held any official or diplomatic passport in the past, then they are required to apply for the re-issue of an ordinary passport while applying for the fresh issue of an official or diplomatic passport. At the same time, if the applicant has ever held a diplomatic passport but has never held an ordinary passport in the past, then they are required to apply for the re-issue of a diplomatic or official passport and fresh issue of an ordinary passport.
  • MISCELLANEOUS SERVICE
    1. POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE (PCC) ISSUE.
    2. Background Verification for GEP: Miscellaneous Passport Service to conduct vetting of the Passport and Police/Criminality check for Indian Citizens willing to enrol for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Global Entry Program (GEP).

WHAT TYPES OF PASSPORTS ARE ISSUED IN INDIA?
THE FOLLOWING THREE TYPES OF PASSPORTS ARE ISSUED IN INDIA:

  1. Ordinary Passport: An Ordinary Passport is a type of passport used by Indian citizens for travel related to business or vacation. It dons a blue cover having 36 or 60 pages in the booklet carrying a validity of 10 years from the date of issue. It can be renewed upon its expiry.

    Uses: It is used by the general population for business and leisure-related travels.

    Advantages: Ordinary Passport aids foreign authorities in making distinctions between government officials and the general public.

  2. Diplomatic Passport: Diplomatic Passport is a maroon-colored passport issued to diplomats, judiciary, designated members of the national government, statutory authorities, official public couriers, and any government-authorized person.

    Uses: This type of passport is used by senior officials of the government and Indian Diplomats to represent India during foreign tours.

    Advantages: Diplomatic Passport offers a wide range of perks to its holders which includes the visa-free facility to them when traveling abroad. During their stay in a foreign country, they are not required to produce any visa.

  3. Official Passport: Official Passport is a grey-colored passport issued to non-gazetted government servants or any other person authorized by the government and deputed abroad regarding government affairs.

    Uses: Government Officials use such type of passport for traveling abroad for official reasons.

    Advantages: White Passport or Official Passport is a kind of passport that makes it easier for immigration officials to identify government officers.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A PASSPORT IN THE NEW SYSTEM?
The applicant is required to fill out forms for fresh issues as well as re-issues via
  1. online medium
  2. e-form submission.
Also, for the police clearance certificate (PCC), the applicant is required to fill out the form via the online medium or through e-form submission.

It is required of the applicants under the new system including infants to be physically present at the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) OR Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) for photographs and biometrics.
